...that old chestnut

You won’t find investor reports, ten different Boards or a lot of red tape at Fresh Direct. We’re quite a big operation, but we’re no corporate giant. That’s because we’ve not forgotten our roots-in fact, we’re pretty damn proud of them. The big cheese’s father, John Harris, started the company selling fruit and vegetables from the back of a mobile Austin 3 van, in Bicester in 1966 – back in the days when he still had a crop of dark hair. In between that and John’s hair turning a glimmering silver, Fresh Direct has morphed into one of the leading suppliers of fresh produce to the foodservice industry.

Today we have quite a few shiny, silver warehouses up and down the country. Like Wonka’s factory, behind their doors lie more than 2000 different types of fruit and vegetables. Our customers keep us very busy – our customer services team don their Britney style headsets and take more than 35,000 orders a week. But there’s no 0845 numbers for us – just good, old fashioned personable service.
