Stone & pome fruit

Stone fruits are (unsurprisingly) fruits with a stone in the middle. This central stone or pit is in fact the seed of the plant that is then surrounded with a delicious fruity flesh. Pome fruits are very similar in that their seeds are contained within the middle of the fruit but within a core rather than a stone. Whatever the differences are the end result is exactly the same; animals are drawn in by the promise of something delicious, they unwittingly eat the seed and ‘deposit’ it further afield in the process.

Fresh Direct supply loads of stone fruit and pome fruit to our customers every day. Our stone fruit range includes the well-known varieties such as apricots, avocados, cherries, dates, mangos, nectarines, flat nectarines, blood nectarines, peaches, flat peaches, plums and more!

Where pome fruit is concerned, we supply a wide range of apple varieties – Braeburn, Bramley, Cox, Eregmont Russet, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Red Delicious, Royal Gala and probably a couple more – as well as pears, loquats, medlars and quince.

These fruits all have their own distinct flavour and each is packed with its own batch of goodness too.

For example, apricots are a fab source of beta carotene and (if dried) are useful sources of iron, fibre and potassium, plums are a good source of vitamin E, and avocados are high in monounsaturated fats.
