Work With Us
The Hammond family have been farming in the UK since 1900 when founder Thomas Hammond bought the 12-acre Derry Mount Farm in Nottinghamshire from his retiring employer. Four generations later, farming over 2,500-acres, 7 days a week, Hammonds produces over 50,000 tonnes of fresh vegetables every year. A combination of expertise, planning, good quality root crops, optimum soil conditions, planting precision, and controlling pests, allow for consistent supply of produce to Fresh Direct year-round.
Hammond Produce’s dedication to sustainable agriculture and food production shapes the way that they farm their land to safeguard its ability to produce healthy, great tasting, fresh food for many generations to come. Their integrated approach to farm management is typified by their LEAF Marque status, Red Tractor certification and BRC accreditation, certifying the sympathetic management of intensive food production alongside long-term environmental sustainability and conservation projects. They have extensive landscape and resource management in place. 20-acres of woodland and over 10 miles of hedgerow has been planted on New Farm in Nottingham. Pollen and nectar mixes attract invertebrates and promote a thriving eco system. Wildflower meadows.
This year, Hammonds are focusing more on their carbon sensitivity for each crop grown and aim to reduce it where possible. Hammonds work closely with the community to engage people with farming and food, through donations to local charities, open evenings, fresh veg contributions to food banks and partnerships with schools to educate children on the farm to fork process. ‘We believe it’s important to connect with the future consumer… to reconnect them with where their food is coming from’ – Jon Hammond.
